Trailing Edge’s Curtiss SBC-3 Dime Scale Model (Published in that great Newsletter MaxFAX – highly recommended!)

The Wing Commander’s Cap!

JetKo was in a commanding position.  His 61 sec Aeroneer flight in bone-chilling 12 degree weather yielded a very high bonus-enhanced score.

But March turned and a pair of Curtiss Helldivers appeared screaming out of the late winter sun.   The poor Aeroneer was left smoking on the tarmac and the deed was done.

The Wing Commander’s Cap …sigh…  Once more it will return to Virginia,  that nemesis of the North.

Trailing Edge Triumphs.. Again

Ughh!  We’re trying to forget the Tom Brady trash talk after last year’s win.  It’s hard.  Angus even stacked the deck…. pffft!

We gotta give TE some credit though.  He did use a different model to win this time.  Not one to fiy the same crate and win year after year.  That’s style.

OK, OK TE, a slight tip o the cap to you.  Remember though, this ain’t no Schneider Cup and you don’t get to keep the Cap!

Giov Wins Top Non-Blue Max Spot

Well now we’re talking!  All the way from the frozen tundra of upstate NY.  Angus questioned the vintage of that T-28, but since Giov is a second-time entrant and he also flew a new model.  He’s in.  Congrats!

We think this might be Giov’s first Kanone.  ALL HAIL!

the Billings Baby Bullet!

Sacre Bleau!!  Flying rubber-powered stick and tissue models in MINUS ELEVEN DEGREES??!!  Yep, all the way from Montana, Baby Bullet truly pegged the Temperature Bonus meter.  Bullet  finished his DGA-9 Dimer at about 7:15 pm, walked across the street, flew it and got on the Tallyboard.  The True Spirit of the Skies!  Kudos to  OOS Sand  and NRE for similar Spirit.  A tip o the cap to you all!

One Day Left!

The 2022 Postal Dime Contest wraps up tomorrow at 12 midnight in your local time zone.

All the cool flyers are on the Tallyboard.  Several have just stepped out their front or back door and gotten in a flight.

Like the sneaker company says – JUST DO IT!

Be like Bill (header) and take your shot at fame and glory.

2022 Postal Dime Scale Contest is On!

Model Bonus and NEW Temperature Bonus this year.  Use Postal Timesheet form in the Sidebar or on the Postal Contest page.

Better Late Than Never!

Okay, okay, we hear you.
The Postal Contest is now officially ON!

As always The Contest ends on St. Patrick’s Day March 17, 2022 and all flights are to be made outdoors .

Check the latest Results on the  Postal Contest page – all times submitted will be posted.  Rules and online Timesheet Form can be found on that page.  Look for the Timesheet Form at the bottom of the sidebar throughout this site as well.

New Temperature Bonus

Eagle eye Angus spotted some inequities in last years crush by that dastardly flyer Trailing Edge.   The boss noted TE’s boasting about the top 3 flights submitted, his merciless Brady Bashing and the fact that TE’s flights were made in positively balmy conditions.

So, he came up with a new Temperature Bonus Table below (we’re pretty sure the rumors that somebody slipped Angus a Fin are untrue)

Angus says that the idea is to keep it close and interesting.  He says it’s all for fun anyway (hmmm…)

So have at it Skysters!
Send any pics and videos and we’ll share on this site.  Use the Contact Form if any questions or comments (to Angus of course, not me)

And just like that – it’s over.

The snow has melted, the ice has thawed, the crocus are sprouting and the 2021 Postal Dime Contest is closed and in the books.

Trailing Edge Triumphs

And the Wing Commander’s Cap now resides (virtually) in the great state of Virginia with Trailing Edge.  Yep, like it was “no big deal” on a nice mid-January day, the Edge put up three multi-minute flights with three different Dime Scale models.  Quite the aerial FAC Hat Trick for sure.
Our heartiest congrats go out to Trailing Edge for this stellar performance!

Daedalus Wins Top Non-Blue Max Spot

Ah, so it turns out Trailing Edge is a well-known Flying Ace with lots of experience winning contests.  We suspected as much!
Our top NBM finisher was Daedalus putting in a one minute flight on a small frozen local flying field in Massachusetts.

Hat’s off to both winners and all of the flyers who braved the winter weather with their fragile stick and tissue models.  From Vermont to Texas and NY, CT, MA, KY, and VA in between, we enjoyed hearing from you.  Stand proud and get ready to go for it again next time!

2021 Postal Dime Scale Contest!

Model Bonus and Temperature Bonus this year.  Use the Postal Timesheet form in the Sidebar or on the Postal Contest page.

Enter your FAC Dime Scale model!

Well gang, things are just not looking good for our indoor flying season this year.  Given that, we’re going to re-run our virtual Dime Scale Postal event this winter.  We had lots of flying and good light-hearted competition last year so let’s do it again.

Remember, anyone can enter and win whether you’re a Stealth Squadron member or not.  Yes, there’s been some overzealous talk of Dimer duels, but we know this is for fun.   It’s all about getting your model and  moniker on the tallyboard (see Postal Page).

The Contest starts on New Year’s Day Jan 1, 2021 and ends on St. Patrick’s Day March 17, 2021.  All flights are to be made outdoors and there will be a Temperature bonus like last year.  That’s right, the colder the day you fly – the more bonus added to your flight time!   Bonus points for your model will be added as well, per the official FAC Dime Scale rules

Check the latest Results on the  Postal Contest page – we’ll post the top 20 times submitted.  Rules and online Timesheet Form can be found on that page.  Look for the Timesheet Form at the bottom of the sidebar throughout this site as well.

Kick off this new decade with style and submit a flight.  Have fun with it.  We’ll post photos or videos of your model or flight on the Stealth Sqdn site too.   Just send them to

Have at it Skysters!

Steve’s 2nd Cricket Model.   Can you beat his time?
Cricket Rubber Free Flight Model

Join the Challenge Today!

You’ve seen William Skelly’s fabulous Laird Solution model plan – well here’s another super model on the other end of the complexity spectrum.  The Cricket is a simple, high flying  stick model designed by clubster Steve Evans.  Scroll to the bottom of this post to download a copy of the plan.

A Designer’s Challenge has been issued for modelers to build their own Cricket and see if they can beat Steve’s high time.  The Challenge will run through September 15 as an online “Postal” contest.   Check out the  Designer’s Challenge page for the latest Results (we’ll post all times submitted) and an  online Timesheet Form which can also be found at the bottom of the sidebar throughout this site.

Now, a few words from our Designer Steve:

“Sometimes its nice to take a break from all the stresses of daily life these days and just do something easy, where the rewards are quick and the efforts minimal. I designed the Cricket to be just that and the first one I made rewarded me by nearly flying away, only returning to the field on a favorable breeze. After that model suffered a benchtop “incident” I decided to build a second one and also to offer the plans out (scroll down to download) along with a challenge.

After one trimming session, my best flight so far is 32 seconds. Build the Cricket and see if you can beat that mark!  This is an unofficial online contest that runs until September 15. Results will be posted on the site.”

Good luck and get flying!

Tommy Too’s Comet Puss Moth

Well gang, our first Postal Dime Scale contest is in the books.

There was some terrifically inspired flying in foot-deep snow and freezing temperatures to grab at the vaunted Squadron Commander’s cap.

William the Kid held the crown through the New Year, putting up a nice flight over the frigid tarmac of mystical Texas Road field.  Oliver S made a daring  run for the glory in the depths of February with two models (one a twin!) in similarly frosty conditions at a remote Western MA field.

The legendary Pinkham Field Irregulars threw up an aerial armada of Dime Scalers in a futile attempt to purloin the Squadron Commander’s cap off to Connecticut.

But in the end it was our fickle old friend Hung, who made his presence known on a late January day at Woodsom farm, spiriting Tommy Too’s Puss Moth dimer on a 2:36min thermal ride.  Yes Virginia, there are thermals in the middle of winter!

And look closely at the results skysters – way down, but there nonetheless.  Yep, even Captain Downthrust himself mailed in an entry…how and from where is unknown, but the flight was listed Pinkham Field.  Y’all were in the best of FAC company.  Stand proud and get ready to go for it again next time!

Postal Dime Scale Contest Ends Soon!

Like those backyard mechanics scrambling to get their homebuilt speed ship together for the big race — you’re running out of time!

Of course we’re talking about our Postal Dime Scale event which wraps up on St Patty’s Day, March 17.   That’s next Tuesday for those calendar-challenged skysters among us.

So check the skies for thermals, dust off your flying box and stooge and head to the field with your best 10 center in a last ditch bid for glory.  You can do it!  Heck, they said Rudy Kling couldn’t beat those big-horsepower radials in the ’37 Thompson too.

Forget the temperature bonus (unless you’re in Alaska) and hunt for thermals.  The weather’s warming up and the croci are blooming…  It’ll take nearly a 3 minute flight to catch Tommy Too and his Comet Puss Moth, but that’s nothing if you can get your crate up there in Hung’s cloud-cuddling grasp.  You know what they say, nothing ventured..

Check out the Postal Contest page for the latest tally and to submit your flight time using the online timesheet.

Time is running out!

Announcing Postal Dime Scale Contest!

Enter your FAC Dime Scale model!

We’re bringing back the FAC Postal Contest – a real crowd-pleaser from the early days of the Flying Aces Club.  This is a virtual event that allows flyers who can’t normally attend our contests to join the fun and go for the glory.  Anyone can win so get out and fly your FAC Dime Scale model.

The Contest starts on Turkey-Day November 28, 2019 and ends on St. Patrick’s Day March 17, 2020.  All flights are to be made outdoors and there will be a Temperature bonus to keep things even for those flying out of colder airdromes.  That’s right, the colder the day you fly – the more bonus added to your flight time!

Check out the Postal Contest page of this site for the up to date Results Table – we’ll post the top 20 times submitted.  Rules and online Timesheet Form can be found on this page.  Look for the Timesheet Form at the bottom of the sidebar throughout the site as well.

This is meant to be a fun thing, not a go-for-broke max times only event.  Get creative and use your best FAC Spirit!  We encourage entries from all locations worldwide.  Photos or videos of your model or flight are welcomed and we’ll try our best to post them on the Stealth Sqdn site for all to enjoy.

Have at it Skysters!
